Why should you have bloodwork performed?

  1. Kidney failure is the #2 killer of dogs and cats (cancer is #1) and can easily be diagnosed on bloodwork. Dogs and cats age faster than humans.
  2. Many diseases can be diagnosed on bloodwork before symptoms occur: thyroid issues, diabetes, cushings disease, kidney disease.

When and how often should you have bloodwork performed?

  1. When your pet is over 7 years of age, then every other year.
  2. Before anesthetic procedures if aged or other exam abnormalities exist.
